The Circle is an association of like-minded, concerned French citizens. As our ideas for a Europe of sovereign nation States, glorying in their independence and their belonging to a European common market, but also desiring cooperation in foreign policies, defense and culture areas, has taken shape, then so too has our goal.
We are now building alliances with like minded citizens across Europe. Please contact us if you share the goal of a Community of European States as described in the draft Treaty in this web site.

Dear Madame, Sir,
Fellow citizens,
Founded in Lyon in the spring of 2006, the Circle of 29th May 2005, brings together Republicans from all backgrounds, “sovereignists” and patriots, who voted against the referendum of 29th May 2005 on the ratification of the European Constitutional Treaty; regardless of whether they had Gaullist leanings, were Chevènementiste, de Villiers supporters, or with no partisan attachment, all driven by the desire that France continues to live and to provide, in full freedom, her contribution to the community of States and to the Peoples of Europe. Our motto: "A free France in a Europe of Nations”.
A group for reflection and proposals, the Circle organized during the first two years of its existence meetings on topics of an economic, social or institutional nature that spotlighted some of the erroneous, idealistic and ineffective characteristics of a European construction whose successive treaties gradually striped States of their sovereign powers to a supranational entity.
The Circle also addressed politicians and French parliamentarians, especially during the congress to examine the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty in February 2008.
Wanting to make a positive contribution to the European debate, the Clircle in July 2008, set up a task group to draft the outline of what should be the organization of European States in a new structure, by nature confederate and preserving the sovereignty of member states, while maintaining the positive aspects of the common market, establishing a monetary system less restrictive than the single currency and facilitating the free cooperation between member States on all issues warranting common action.
Disseminating its “Draft Treaty establishing the Community of European States" on the Internet, the Circle seeks to influence European public opinion where the majority, when consulted, express their refusal to see their nation disappear.
It is up to the European peoples to regain their freedom with their sovereignty and to establish the institutional framework that will promote cooperation, similar to that described by our project.
Our website welcomes your comments, your criticisms and your support.
For the Circle of 29th May 2005
